Riveting and rivets: it sounds like something from the past. After all, welded joints are often chosen for new steel structures. But old techniques, such as riveting, are still worth their weight in gold when it comes to restoring the Netherlands’ beautiful historical heritage. Because it has to be both beautiful and sustainable!
Rivets are fasteners that consist of a pin and a thickened end: the setting head. The round or flat head that is riveted onto it is the locking head. Rivets were mainly used in shipbuilding and metal constructions such as the Eiffel Tower.
We were allowed to use this old craftsmanship in the restoration of the national monument Hemsterhuisbrug in the center of The Hague.
