This special construction, which served as a support for a crane platform, presented its own challenges. Because the platform was placed near the Panama Canal (where the earth’s layers meet), the possibility of earthquakes had to be taken into account. The construction therefore had to be coarse and heavy. Another challenge was the realisation of the sloping joints between the tubes.
