The five Singelpark bridges in Leiden were a versatile and unusual project. The stepped sides and the ballusters of the Singelpark bridges were made of Corten steel and the prefab steps were fitted with ’trays’ for the paving stones from Leiden.
The special design of these bridges included solid stainless steel balls. We came up with an alternative that would make the bridges less heavy and less expensive: hollow spheres with a stainless steel pipe in them.
During production, we were able to stay within budget, thanks in part to technical optimisations and strong logistics. For example, we built the bridge in two parts and welded them together above the water, contrary to the original plan.
